What Type Of Fitness Is Needed For Kitesurfing?
Kitesurfing is a sport that is growing in popularity all the time. It is actually growing faster than any other water sport according to the governing body for kitesurfing. It is also one of the fastest growing extreme sports overall, and it seems people are ditching their snowboards in favour of kites, as snowboarding growth has recently been overtaken by this great sport . You will need to seriously work on your body however if you're considering trying out the sport properly. This is what you should be focusing on.
- Upper Body Strength. This is definitely among the top most important fitness elements you will be required to build on. A vast amount of the forces you will experiences when taking part go through the upper body and these will be muscles you will need to focus on if you're to stand any chance. Your shoulder muscles should be the ones that receive the majority of training focus. These muscles work as 'fixator' muscles, providing stability for the rest of the body. You'll also need to work on your upper back muscles and the ones that make up the chest
- Core Strength. As your body tends to be pulled in lots of different directions and is under large amounts of force, you need to be able to stabilise it and have sufficient core muscle tone. One very good pierce of gym equipment that you can use to enhance your core is a Swiss Ball. You will probably have to add weights into you core workouts though in order to replicate the strains you will experience whilst out on the water. Often the kite will want to pull you in a direction you do not want to go so it will be your developed core strength that will let you remain planted
- Aerobic Fitness. Although you might not associate the sport with aerobic fitness, your lungs and heart will need to be in shape. Due to fact various muscles will be working incredibly hard, they will be demanding ever increasing volumes of oxygen and they will be churning out more and more CO2 and lactic acid. You will feel the effects quite early on if you lungs and heart cannot feed the muscles with oxygen quickly enough and remove harmful bi-products at a steady rate. Jogging or cycling are ideal methods for enhancing your CV (heart and lungs) system.
